EBACE Geneva 29th May 2018

A bit of a last minute trip this year as, for one reason or another, we seemed to forget about EBACE so it was a late booked day trip only. Most of the usual cohorts for this trip were erstwhile occupied so it was just the three of us that travelled together. Buster, Dog and Nay.

The show static had moved a bit further out this year which made it a tad easier from landing to see most things. Views from the cafe area were still similar to usual. We didn't go in so no doubt missed a couple bits inside and maybe the odd one or two outside.

On the walk back to the terminal we were rather pleased to catch the only Baltic CS that eluded us in Riga.

We'd had a heads up earlier in the afternoon that EZY had binned our flight so we headed off to see what was what. As expected, they had. Bugger. After all the kerfuffle was sorted we boarded the EZY coach transfer to Lyon for a short nights stay before an 0710 departure from Lyon to Gatwick!

It was getting on for midnight when we got to the hotel so the planned nightcap was binned in favour of kip. We were all cream crackered.

Up early for our flight, the EZY8416, which was operated by OE-IJW.

Arriving at the North terminal at Gatwick we found a seat and stayed airside for a couple of hours to let the rush hour pass. It was also a good excuse to catch up on some slack frames.

No need for an overly early start so we got up in time for brekkie at the hotel. Certianly not the best I've had but I have had worse.

A bit of distance to the next stop so we halved it and overnighted in Torva at the Hotel de Tolly. It was the only hotel around that offered a restaurant which is why we chose it. It transpires the restaurant closed a few months ago but they still advertise it. Naughty naughty. A walk into town found everywhere closed bar a supermarket. A cold buffet on the terrace it is then!

At least there was a breakfast though it pretty much resembled last nights dinner.

First up was the Border Guard Museum. The Mi-8 was easily visible from outside so we didn't bother going in.

That's all for Estonia. Tallinn was just too far for the time we had on this trip. Maybe we'll have a weekend there when Wizz start from Luton later this year. Back to Lativa, sorry, Latvia.

Cesis has two sides, one old, one new. The old side was all shut up with nobody around. A bit of squinnying eeked out a few though there were more in there. The new side had a blister hangar with 3 Cessnas inside. The pretty lady let us have a look but photos were a no no.

The Mi-24 boom section is in the museum grounds but was seen from the terminal once airside. We could not see this from inside the museum.

Leaving just one Air Baltic outstanding (CSH) it was time for an early flight home. Yet again HA-LYJ was the ride on W62503.

Arriving back about 1815L immigration was chocka. Once cleared it was time for a circuit before post trip drinks and a decent meal in the Wiggy.
