Poland 20th - 24th January 2016 Day 1 and 2

A four day trip to Poland for John and Colin. This time exploring the Katowice to Lodz area.
An evening departure from Luton on board Wizz for the first time.

Only a few noted down at the local, HA-LYL being our ride on W6 1006.

Just under a two hour flight to Katowice, we arrived to find Poland covered in a blanket of snow.
Not much was logged at Katowice as we would be coming back in the morning.

We headed for our nearby hotel, the Hotel Iskra. Sadly no Iskra on display, but the MiG-21 went down very nicely!

Up early for what was technically day 2 of our trip. We headed back to Katowice to see what we could of the stored Antonov's. The MiG appears to have moved on from here.

The snow was now coming down thick and fast, this made reading military serials very difficult. However a handful of W-3's hit the net, with approximately another 11 or so going begging.

Completely deserted except for some people learning to drive! We probably could have squinnied a few but it was getting late and very cold by now! Onward it was...

Last stop of the day was Lodz-Barracks, a rare drop here, the Iskra being at Faiford a number of years ago.

There were two other stops in Lodz, the Mil-2 Bar appears to have been re-done and re-named, sadly no Mi-2 to be found.

We also searched for the Mig-21 at the Lodz-University. The plinth was empty and Mig-21, 1907 was nowhere to be seen. We would however catch up with this later in the trip at Napoleon.

The snow was relentless throughout the day, but strangely didn't slow our progress. The Polish seem to have adapted to the harsh weather. I can't help but think that back home would have been a standstill were the conditions the same.

All in all a good day, this trip was never about big numbers but more of some quality. The more MiG's the better as far as we were concerned, so it was a good day indeed.
