Austria Zeltweg Zortie - 1st - 4th September 2016 Day 1

The standard early start for a trip to the local and another EZY flight for Colin and John. After the ritualistic brekkie with Frank and Ben it was time to board G-EZBX which was operating todays EZY2463. There was nothing to trouble the log at Luton.

After a queue at passport control and another at the car rental desk it was off for a look at the biz. We'd have time on the last day for the bigger stuff as it was now early afternoon and there were dromes to do.

We were hoping for a bit of action at the first mil base but there was nothing happening at all. Just the lone Bird Dog in its usual spot.

A good start. One hangar has a Balloon laid out in the rafters, OE-Z_W, and another a stored blue H269, OE-H_N.

Nobody about at the open hangar at the next stop so we read what was there from outside. A little flurry saw a couple of arrivals as we were near the tower so a quick pull into the car park for a couple of snaps. We beat OE-9180 here from Krems!

Dinopark was next on the list. No sign of the Saab from outside but the nice lady in the kiosk gave us a map and off we went.

The next drome at Ottenschlag was all locked up with nobody about and squinnyproof. One for another day.

Leutzmannsdorf was the penultimate stop of the day. It was now early evening but there was still a fair bit of activity at this lovely little field. One of the chaps showed us round the hangars.

So, on to the last stop of day one. This establishment does not open until 2000 hours so we'd arrived as planned about 1930. Once the manager had finished prepping his club for opening time he happily showed us his chopper, and a lovely Mil Mi-2 it is. Erlebnissauna Caribik Swingerclub, the largest in Europe apparently, would have to do without the charms of Nay and Buster. One for another day?
