NBAA Florida 12th - 22nd October 2018 - Days 8-11

We gave Kissimmee a miss and headed straight out via a stop to fill up the motor and grab a coffee and snacks. Whilst in the garage, which was next to one of the two heli pleasure flight locations, a trio of HABs were seen lifting. No visible reg on any of them. The two eyecatcher Bell 206s (real or plastic) were still in situ.

At Polk the museum was closed. The sign on the gate said it would re-open to the public in November. Just the usual two outside.

A quick look at South Lakeland but only a couple of lights out.

We'd been looking forward to Lakeland ever since we'd heard the MiG-21s were now out of their containers. We were not to be disappointed. Secondary target was the NOAA G4 now they'd moved here from MacDill.

Having ignored the museum last time we were here we may as well get it out of the way. Nothing overly exciting inside for us bar an unmarked MiG-21 cockpit section. For completeness I've included everything bar the odd thing that didn't make the paper log.

Arriving at TPA and doing a biz circuit we were umming and aahing over where to park up. The multi storey or by the biz. It was rather warm with no shade at either so we opted for option three. An early check-in at the hotel. The Ramada was on the approach path and a request for high rooms with our desired view was duly met. You can also easily see arrivals for PIE from here.
On the liner front it is Southwest again who are the major players. The other main carriers also have a presence but smaller.

Once the light went it was time for dinner. We'd clocked the Longhorn Steak House on the way in so it was steak and beer time. Both went down a treat. Back to the hotel and a lazy rest of the evening where you'd could see anything landing from laying on the bed. Pogo, having only had about four naps today, was tired. LB and Nay found it humourous to let him know another of his last 600 SW 737s was on its way. Kept him up til midnight!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Up early and TPA was as busy as Pogos dropped list. We didn't stay too long as there were dromes to do.

Off to PIE where things had changed since our last visit in 2013. The road that went to the biz behind the USCG area was now closed off. Quite a few biz in the middle of the field looking like they were being parted out. On the liner front all we saw were Allegiant 320s

That was the end of the planned day. It was still light so we opted for a look at Punta Gorda to see how it looked as we'd planned to do the airshow tomorrow. The static was rather uninspiring and we poled most of it off anyway. $25 for going in for maybe an extra warbird or two got three thumbs down. Liner wise, Allegiant 320s.

The brekkie at the hotel was duly scoffed before heading out on our last full day of the trip.

We passed Pine Shadows early doors, no surprise that there was nothing outside.

Another missed MiG chance next. A yard in Fort Myers that had an A-4 and 3 MiG-21 cockpit sections now only contained cars and an RV or two...trailer park style, not Van's.

The pleasure of being our ride home went to G-CKWC on the DI7046. A couple more films and a nap saw the time go pretty quickly.

Nothing exciting at Gatwick upon our return to Blighty. No great views in the South terminal so we opted to get the train back to Luton straight away. A circuit of the local on foot before the 5-10 minute walk home. Pogo still had to travel back oop norf.
